Impressions
Infantry
The Infantry was the main type of troops used during the war, without infantry there was no Army. Because of this, infantry is the most commonly portrayed aspect of the military in Civil War Re-enacting.  We portray the men of the 44th Indiana Volunteer Infantry whenever we portray infantrymen. Our uniforms consist of Sky Blue trousers, Dark Blue Sack coats and black civilian hats. This is the appearance that the original 44th had as is evidenced by the pictures below.
We travel around the Nation in pursuit of our hobby however we spend most of our time within a few hours drive of home(Northeast Indiana).
We prefer to camp in a campaign style, but we still like to stay fairly close to civilian camp for reasons like....FOOD!
Artillery
Our secondary impression is that of an Artillery crew, two of our members own a 3-inch Hooper rifle, which was a light field piece used during the War. We often crew the gun at living history events and one or two battle reenactments a year. We have found that being able to crew a cannon has helped us to be more aware and safer on the battlefield, it is also quite fun getting to shoot the big gun!
Civilians
The civilians are sad to say, among the groups that are sometimes overlooked by the public, although they don't go out and fight, they are just as important to reenacting as the soldiers are. Our civilians are a very close group of people, they aren't just reenactors, they are also friends outside of the hobby, which really goes for our unit as a whole. All ages are welcome to participate as civilian reenactors, we have whole families involved with our group, it brings a fun and wholesome atmosphere when families come to events together.
